Man charged for selling prisoner’s gas welder

Sommer Woodward
Staff Reporter

A man whose age and address haven’t been identified was charged with embezzlement Tuesday.

J.P. Keen hadn’t been arrested as of press time.

Keen is accused of selling a Predator gas welder which he knew belonged to Jason Willis.

Willis loaned Keen the gas welder, but told him he needed it back within a couple days. When Willis attempted to recover the welder, he discovered the welder was sold to Eddie Peters.

Peters told the investigator working the case Keen sold him the gas welder.

Keen spoke with Investigator Scott Yeager on the phone and admitted he borrowed the gas welder, but sold it because Willis owed him $800.

The information was turned over the district attorney’s office and Keen was charged with embezzlement.

After loaning Keen the welder, Willis was arrested for possession of a firearm after a felony conviction. He was found guilty by a jury of six women and six men and is currently serving a 30-year sentence in the custody of the department of corrections.
