Commissioners hold land sale

Julie Yates
Staff Reporter

The county sold three pieces of land Monday in a special commissioners’ sale.

Mayes County Treasurer Demecia Franklin said a 10-acre tract sold for $3,600. The 10 acres, located east of Locust Grove, is landlocked. The beginning bid was $50.

R.L. Sanders purchased the acreage and then sold it to Eddie Peters.

Peters bought the Davenport property in Langley for $200. The purchase included a dilapidated house on a 35 x 100 foot lot.

Franklin told the commissioners the county would have to maintain the property and demolish the home if the property was not sold.

A 2 1/2 acre plot against a bluff sold for $350 to Charles Clark. The opening bid was $60. The acreage is north of Chouteau, near Hammond Heights.

Commissioners accepted the bids on all three tracts.

A fourth piece of land, a one-acre tract on a curve, was not sold after the two bidders backed out. Franklin said the county will have to go through the process of readvertising the property before trying to sell it again.
