LEPC commends Colston

Kay Mc Farland
Staff Reporter

The regular monthly meeting of the Local Emergency Planning Committee was conducted by Roger Simmons. He recognized the outstanding emergency work that for Emergency Management Director Lloyd Colston accomplisted for Mayes County. Colston left to take a full-time emergency management position in Altus.

Simmons reported that he and Mark Ogle of the American Red Cross had attended a table top demonstration for response to a pandemic influenza event at a school. A lot of knowledge was gained, including the fact that the Mayes County Health Department and the LEPC work so well together as opposed to lot of the other counties in the state, Simmons said.

Mike Dunham informed the group that the emergency management agency is ruling by committee until Colston’s replacement can be appointed. Mike Orange has been designated as receiving officer. Johnny Janzen and Mike Orange have both expressed an interest in accepting the position of Director of Emergency Management.

The 300 and 400 Incident Command System classes and all other training is currently available to maintain the proper level of emergency readiness. All responders must have the minimum hours of training for the agency to qualify for available grant money.
