Commissioners finalize railroad project

Kay Mc Farland
Staff Reporter

The Mayes County Board of County Commissioners approved the resolution for the programming federal-aid railroad safety project Monday. This will allow the railroad to maintain the track at the crossing that was closed at road EW 37.5. The county will maintain the right-of-way.

The annual renewal of cooperative agreement between the United States Department of Agriculture and Mayes County was also approved. The agreement is for the control of wildlife, usually beavers that build dams of the area creeks. USDA also manages any other wildlife or animals which threaten the general public.

Diamond Head Fire Department has applied for a Rural Economic Action Plan grant for $22,980 to build a 20 by 50-foot extension on Station 2. The department is Title 18 and needs the commissioners to sign a resolution to sponsor them for the grant. The request was approved.

The Strang Fire Department has also applied for a REAP grant in the amount of $20,000 to purchase rescue tools. Their request for a resolution to be sponsored by the commissioners was approved.

The utility relocation of the waterline in the Kenwood District for project BRO-149D (86) CO Saline Creek was approved.

The board of commissioners recognized the Tort claim for Thomas Eslinger in the amount of $2,000.

Mike Orange was appointed director of Mayes County Emergency Management until a replacement for Lloyd Colston is hired.

The appropriation of cash accounts was approved. The consideration of claims for payment and the request for blanket purchases orders were also approved.
