Two arrested in car wash burglary

Sommer Woodward
Staff Reporter

Pryor police arrested two men in connection with the June 5 burglary of Spot Free Car Wash in Pryor.

Karl Edwin Smith, 52, Pryor, was charged with second degree burglary and knowingly concealing stolen property (KCSP) and Mark Anthony Smith, 29, Pryor, was charged with KCSP.

Both were employees of the car wash. Karl was currently working, while Mark had recently left for a new job.

Police were contacted about the burglary on June 5 after the owner found the office had been forced open. An undisclosed amount of money was missing.

Through an investigation, officers discovered the alarm had been compromised by being shut off. An employee claimed he locked the store up and left to go to another job interview, but forgot to activate the alarm.

The employee claimed he didn’t notice the burglary until the owner notified police.

After Karl was arrested, police searched his residence and found money taken from the burglary.

Officers found Mark at his new job in Jay. He was arrested at his work after five minutes on the job.

Both were booked and released from the Mayes County jail. Karl’s bond was $20,000 while Mark’s was $7,500.

Their next court date is the preliminary hearing sounding docket June 26, at 9:30 a.m.
