The only county office filled when the filing period ended was the Mayes County Clerk. An election will be held to decide the court clerk, District 2
commissioner and sheriff.
Mayes County Clerk Rita Littlefield, 60, Pryor, drew no opponent. She was automatically re-elected at the end of filing, Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Mayes County Court Clerk Lori Parsons, 49, Pryor, filed for the office of court clerk. Judy Gist-Coppedge, 44, Pryor, also filed for the court clerk’s position along with Joni Gates, age 50, Pryor.
The Mayes County Court Clerk
position will be decided in the primary election, July 29, since all three are
registered Democrats.
Mayes County Sheriff Frank Cantey, 56, Pryor, filed for the office of sheriff. His opponent is C. R. Chuck Clawson, 65, Spavinaw. Since Clawson is registered Republican and Cantey Democrat, the sheriff race will be decided in the Nov. 4 election.
District 2 County Commissioner Larry Ramsey, 55, Pryor, filed for the office of District 2 county commissioner. Darrell Yoder, 50, Chouteau and Bucky Oscar Franklin, 67, Chouteau, both threw their hats in for the District 2 commissioner position.
The commissioner race will be decided in the July 29 primary election since all three are registered Democrats.
If a runoff is needed in either the court clerk or commissioner race, the date will be Aug. 26.
Candidates who were the only person to file for their state office are Ben Sherrer, 39, Chouteau for state representative District 8; Chuck Hoskin, 56, Vinita, for state representative District 6. Both were automatically reelected at the end of the filing period.
In state representative district five, incumbent Doug Cox, 55, Grove, will face Kelly Kerr, 39, Grove. The District 5 election will be decided in the Nov. 4 election.
Congressman Dan Boren, 34, Muskogee, drew two opponents in the District 2 representative race for Oklahoma. Kevin Coleman, 46, Grove, a Democrat, and Raymond J. Wickson, 55, Okmulgee, a Republican, both filed for the office. Voters will choose Boren or Coleman in the July 29 primary election. The winner will face Wickson on the Nov. 4 ballot.
