Trustees switch Chouteau firefighter to salary

Chouteau trustees considered police and fire department personnel promotions at their monthly meeting Monday.

After an executive session, the board approved hiring Officer T.J. Cox as a full-time officer at an hourly rate of $12.25.

The board approved changing Firefighter Keith Brandon’s pay from hourly to salary at a yearly salary of $27,040.

The board approved declaring three police vehicles as surplus. The vehicles are a 2004 Ford, 2000 Ford and 1994 Dodge Dakota truck which was the animal control vehicle. The vehicles will be sold at auction. The Chouteau Fire Department gave the police department a Chevy truck to use as the animal control vehicle. The Chevy has a new engine and the fire department has no use for the vehicle.

The board approved purchasing police equipment out of the equipment and training fund for a total of $1,407.50 after a $250 trade-in for a lightbar. The items include a Whelen LED lightbar, Dodge Interpase Module, 10 Pin dash connectors, Carson 100/200 Watt Siren, 17-inch Co-ax, radio antenna and one UHF three-piece crimp connector.

The board approved having Fleet Distributors Express install emergency equipment on the 2007 Dodge Charger. The cost is $1,050.

The board approved $716 worth of maintenance on the 2003 Ford police unit at North Point Ford.

The board approved sending Jeremy Armstrong to a two-day animal control training class in Altus on May 29-30. The cost is $150 plus $136 for a motel room and mileage to and from Altus.

The fire department responded to 28 calls in April with 21 of those being first responder calls. The remaining calls were two Haz-Mat, two water rescue, one fire alarm, one assisting the police

department and one grass fire.

The police department issued 277 citations, wrote 61 warnings and gave 148 verbal warnings in April. Total contacts made were 486. The department took 128 police calls, made one drug arrest and jailed 35 people. Reserve officers worked 91.5 hours. The department took 13 animal calls, picking up 14. One vehicle crash with no injuries was worked. Cases worked were one domestic assasult, one larceny report, one intimidation complaint filed with Juvenile Services, one burglary complaint resulting in an arrest, one assault with a deadly weapon complaint, one assault, one forgery, one vandalism and two vicious dogs. Arrests were made for four driving under the influence (DUI) - alcohol, two DUI - drugs, two felony warrants, one domestic assault and battery, one driving while license is cancelled, three juvenile arrests for minor in possession, five driving under suspension, one driving while intoxicated and one possession of drugs.
