Sherrer to fight flag changes

OKLAHOMA CITY – State Rep. Ben Sherrer vowed today to oppose legislation making any changes to the design of Oklahoma’s state flag.

House Bill 2230, which was recently approved by the House International Relations and Tourism Committee on a 7-4 vote, would modify the flag’s design.

“I take great pride in our State’s beautiful flag and its unique design,” said Sherrer, D-Chouteau. “I think most Oklahomans have pride in our state’s heritage and history – and our flag is a big part of that.

“The Oklahoma flag simply does not need to be changed as we enter our second hundred years of statehood. Today’s children are proud to be Oklahomans and identify with our flag as it is.”

House Bill 2230 would modify the state flag to italicize the word “Oklahoma,” print the letters at an angle and add an exclamation point after the letters. The bill awaits a vote on the House floor.
