Commissioners open bids, approve awards

Opening and awarding bids were some of many items on Mayes County Commissioners’ agenda Monday.

Commissioners approved buying a Komatsu track excavator from Kirby-Smith Manufacturing.

The equipment for District 3 will be purchased at a cost of $132,205, which Commissioner Chairman Melvin Pritchett felt was the best bid.

Disney Fire Department is selling a 2000 Ford Explorer to Larry Singleton for $976. Singleton submitted the single bid for the vehicle.

Spavinaw Fire Department is looking to buy a new grass rig. Pritchett opened bids from four companies on the brush pumper truck.

Blanchat Manufacturing of Harper, Kan., submitted two bids for $74,166 and $69,998.

Cooper Creek Manufacturing, Loyal, offered a gasoline V10 truck at a cost of $71,950. Chief Fire & Safety, Chickasha, gave a bid of $76,787 for a 2009 Ford F450.

Weis Fire & Safety of Salina, Kan., did not submit a bid “due to the proprietary nature of the specifications.”

Commissioners voted to propose accepting two sections of road into the county road system.

The section of road in District 1 on North 440 Road was open before according to Commissioner Alva Martin. He said the six-tenths mile section was put in reserve status after vandalism occurred, but there are more homes along the road now.

In District 3, a one-half mile stretch of road running north is soon to be accepted into the county system. The road is situated at the intersection of North 447 Road and East 470. Pritchett said the road is three-fourths mile east of Wickliffe School.

The Town of Adair is coming under the direction of Mayes County Emergency Management for emergency services. By law towns must have an emergency management plan or provide one.

The yearly charge for emergency services will cost Adair approximately $1,400. Janzen said Mayes County Emergency Management figures the cost of emergency

management according to town population.

Mayes County Sheriff Frank Cantey reported 109 inmates in the county jail and “no leaks as

of nine o’clock this

morning.”.
