EM director says weather radios good investment

Mayes County Emergency Management Director Johnny Janzen said severe weather season may be

starting sooner than normal.

“Weather radios are an inexpensive why to stay aware of changing weather conditions,” Janzen said. The radios can be set for one type of weather condition or the full array of severe storms. The frequency covers all of Mayes County and receives the same information as the tornado sirens in town. They can also be programed to advise people of emergencies such as fires and other hazardous events.

“Weather radios are available at Radio Shack and the American Red Cross, for between $40 and $60.” said Janzen.
