Last day for Long’s

— Long’s Short Stop north of Pryor on Mill Street closed its doors just hours before the new year.

Store owner Gary Long decided to call it quits after many years of operation. Eric Clouse

of Burggraf/Eric’s Affordable Tires bought the property two years ago. Long owned the store but leased the property.

Clouse said he does not have any immediate plans, accept to have the building cleaned up inside. Clouse said he may transform the store into office space, or expand his tire store which is next door. It may even become a convenience store again.

“We’ve talked to Phillips 66 about moving in to this location,” Clouse said, adding that one of the reasons for Long’s decision was his shifting responsibilities at his full-time work apart from operating the convenience store, even though business was good.

Penny Stone, the store manager, has been with Long’s for 12 years and is sad to see the store close. Stone said the store has probably been open for the past 25 or 30 years. Stone said it has been Long’s for the past 14 or 15 of those years. As of Friday, the store was already out of gas. Stone said, “Tomorrow night (New Years Eve) will be the final night of Long’s Short Stop, which is kind of sad and bittersweet. To me its like an icon of Pryor, at least on this side of town.”
