Hunting, fishing gifts at Salina store

PRYOR, OK — Dave's Store, the only sporting goods store in this neck of the woods, is the a must-stop shopping destination for the outdoorsy type on any Christmas list.

Dave Allison opened the store in Salina six weeks ago and said merchandise is flying off the shelves.

Allison owned his own construction company for many years before working on the pipeline, then driving a cement truck.

“I quit that and opened up this store,” said Allison. “I'd always wanted a sporting goods store.”

Allison grew up in the Salina area, hunting and fishing.

“I did a lot of hunting and fishing around here, still do,” said Allison. He said his two daughters share his love for fishing.

Allison said merchandise is moving out the door pretty quickly.

“Everyone is very excited that we're here, we've gotten some positive feedback,” said Allison, who hopes the Christmas shopping rush will allow him to stock the store with even more great products at the first of the year.

“We've got bass, crappie and catfish stuff,” said Allison, which includes catfish and crappie fishing rods. “We've got all the essentials, filet knives, cutting boards, knife sharpeners,  minnows, baits.”

Dave's stocks snagging equipment and an assortment of lures and baits.

For hunters, Allison stocks a selection of deer scents and calls.

“We stock a few used bows right now. We're hoping to get more in the future,” he said. “I'm also working on getting some tree stands.

“We are building our stock in hunting supplies right now, but we have a ton of fishing supplies,” he said. “I also do taxidermy.”

Allison said he will mount deer heads, coyotes, bobcats, really anything but fish.

Allison's wife, Tammy, assists in running the store, which is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m until 5 p.m and Saturday, 10 a.m until

2 p.m.

The store is located at 206 West Ferry St. in Salina. Dave and Tammy can be reached at the store at 918-434-5824.

Dave’s hasn’t been open long. but encourage folks to Christmas shop at their humble little Salina storefront.
