PRYOR, OK —
As part of National Farm to School Month and National School Lunch Week, Pryor Elementary schools were host to the “Know Your Farmers, Know Your Food” presentation.
During their lunch hour Jefferson Elementary School students were able to sample either blueberry or sweet potatoe pecan muffins.
Christina Roberson, along with her daughter, were on hand to show students the ingredients that went into making the muffins; a stalk of wheat, wheat flour, blueberries and pecans. Roberson explained to the students that the ingredients all came from local farms.
The blueberries came from Outback Farms, just east of Pryor. Kids were impressed to hear the sweet potatoes came from the Moua Family in Oolagah, who also set up at Pryor’s Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings.
Roberson said the pecans came from Two Sisters Farm in Chouteau.
The students spent the morning learning about the importance of farmers.
One by one, as they tasted their muffins, the students thanked Roberson for growing their food.
The muffins, Roberson said, were baked by the Pryor Junior High Family and Consumer Science Class.
