Pryor’s money pit

Pryor’s decision to hire a bond counsel for future building projects is a welcome one.

It’s hard to stomach the thought of turning over more money to a city whose last building project leaves much to be desired.

In yet another recreation center board meeting, the city is discussing building problems - again.

The patio is crumbling because the dirt wasn’t compacted enough and of course, the roof is letting water leak into the building.

Apparently the roof wasn’t built to specifications. You think?

Since the warranty has expired - that’s right, the warranty was not even three years long - the city will have to foot the bill to repair or completely replace the roof.

Surely a construction manager would have

recommended a longer warranty on the roof. At least we hope.

It appears the recreation center is becoming a money pit. Dollar after dollar is being spent taking care of issues which shouldn’t be a problem in the first place.

An experienced consultant should stop these types of mistakes from happening in the future.

We’re not against future building projects in the city, but we do encourage the council to keep a closer eye on exactly what they’re buying.

In the words of our mayor, sometimes the lowest bid is not the best bid.
