It’s my first Mother’s Day. I’m excited to be celebrating my first Mother’s Day with all the other moms in the world, especially my grandmother.
It goes without saying that moms are special. I’m not just saying that because I am one. I’ve always thought there is no one in the world like a mom. Most moms probably feel like a maid, nurse, cook and taxi driver but in reality they are so much more. In my book moms are what make the world go round.
From moms who are working to take care of their family on a daily basis to the moms who have the added struggle of caring for a special needs or sick child I want to say thank you. Thank you for all you do. Thank you for picking up after us. Thank you for cooking, cleaning and mending. Thank you for listening and always being there when we need you. Moms, you may not hear it from your family, friends or those around you, but we see what you do. We may not know the extent of your struggle but we see your love shining bright.
So, to the mom up every three hours to feed a new born, thank you. To the mom just trying to keep up with their toddler, thank you. To the single mom struggling to make ends meet, thank you. To the mom making costumes for the school play, thank you. To the mom up late researching ways to help a son with autism, thank you. To the mom traveling to hospitals to help a daughter with cerebral palsy, thank you. To the mom by the bedside of a child with cancer, thank you. To the mom praying for a child caught up by addiction, thank you.
To the grandmothers who have stepped up to take care of a second generation of children, thank you! Without you, some of us would never had made it.
To the moms-to-be carrying the sweet cargo for nine months, thank you. To the moms-in-waiting who were told it may never happen, thank you for your determination. Don’t give up it’s well worth the wait.
And on a very personal note, to the courageous birth moms who loved their baby so much they chose to give them to a mom-in-waiting. I can’t say thank you enough. Words can never express my gratitude.
To the moms like me, who may not have grown their baby under their heart but in it, I say thank you and Happy Mother’s Day!
