PRYOR, OK — An alien considered banned by the Department of Homeland Security appeared in Mayes County District Court Wednesday on assault charges.

Frederico Alvarez Zepeda was arrested by the Mayes County Sheriff's Office and charged with domestic assault and battery. A warrant for his arrest was issued Aug. 9 and Zepeda was arrested Dec. 4.

Online court records show Zepeda has a Locust Grove address but in court proceedings Assistant District Attorney Marny Hill informed the court that the defendant is a non-resident alien and that the Department of Homeland Security classified him as a banned citizen. When asked about that classification the defendant said, “I'm working on that.”

Zepeda entered a plea of not guilty and his case was continued to Feb. 2. Hill requested holding the defendant without bond because of his citizenship status. The court set bond at $25,000
