Accused rapist arrested

PRYOR, OK — An arrest warrant was issued for Bobby Lee Hurst in September of 2013. Hurst is charged with a felony count of first degree rape and was arrested April 15. In Mayes County District Court arraignment, Hurst was told his charges can carry up to life in prison. Bond on the felony charge was set at $150,000.

Hurst, 50, is said to have raped a 38 year old Tulsa woman at Loves truck stop in Chouteau. The alleged victim was said to have been traveling to Arkansas with a man she described as “5”10 between 170-190 pounds” later determined to be Hurst. According to he probable cause affidavit they were traveling down Highway 412 when Hurst said he was tired and wanted to stop.

She describes the man grabbing her by the throat, throwing her in the sleeper area of the truck and raping her repeatedly throughout the night. The victim reported that she believes she lost consciousness during the attack, according to the affidavit. The victim was treated by paramedics on scene for  injuries to her arms, elbows and legs.

At one point Hurst allegedly began urinating in a bottle, and the victim told him she also had to urinate but could not use a bottle. At that point, according to the probable cause affidavit, the victim was able to jump out of the truck and call 911. Hurst allegedly told the victim that if she told anyone about the incident, he would kill her.

A cigarette lighter was processed for fingerprints by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation crime lab.A DNA profile was submitted  into a forensic database. The results came back a match for Hurst.

Hurst is being held in the Mayes County Jail.
