PRYOR, OK —
Mayes County jailer Aaron Peters, has been charged with a felony count, alleging he had a sex with an inmate in the county jail.
During district court arraignment Tuesday, Peters’ attorney, Kim Ritchie, was present on his behalf. Judge Rebecca Gore stated that she reviewed the probable cause affidavit and found reason to hold Peters on the charge.
The assistant district attorney requested bond be set at $1 million because of the “abuse of power.” Ritchie stated the defendant is not a flight risk and therefore requested a bond of $20,000. Gore split the difference and set bond at $50,000. The state has until Friday to formally file the charges.
“We will not tolerate anything like that from any employee that works for us. That behavior is unacceptable 100 percent. In a leadership position, having that responsibility, you’re held to a higher standard. He will be held accountable. I take professionalism and responsibility very seriously,” said Sheriff Mike Reed who is in Washington, DC, at training all week.
Peters has no prior criminal record.
