Adair girls No. 1, LG boys 10th in first coaches' poll

ADAIR, OK — The Adair girls basketball team has opened the season at No. 1 in the initial Class 3A poll on

Adair, which finished 28-1 last year, returns the core of its state semifinal unit. The Lady Warriors picked up 29 first-place votes and 920 points, edging No. 2 Alva by 16 points for the top spot. Alva received 17 first-place votes. No. 3 Tahlequah Sequoyah, No. 5 Hugo and No. 12 Sulphur each picked up one first-place vote.

The Locust Grove boys open the season ranked No. 10 in Class 4A.

The top five teams — Victory Christian, Douglass, Anadarko, Harrah and McLain — all picked up at least one first-place vote.

Chouteau’s boys (1-0) barely squeaked into the boys 2A poll, coming in at No. 20.

After a state tournament appearance in 2013, the Wildcats lost three senior starters.

Defending 2A champion Latta, which eliminated Chouteau in the state semifinals in March, anchors the No. 1 spot. Millwood, Northeast Academy, Haworth and Preston round out the top five.
