Horse div. winners at Ft. Worth

Ft. Worth, Texas — Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Livestock Judging team won the horse division and finished fourth at Fort Worth Stock Show Feb. 8. It has been more than a decade since NEO has won the horse division.

“I’m very proud of the team in how they performed in the horse division. Our horse judging coach Amanda Burrows did an outstanding job preparing the team, and we are fortunate to have such a strong equine program at NEO,” said Tyler Dewey, livestock judging coach.

Megan Montgomery placed as high individual in horses, second high individual in cattle, and fourth high individual in reasons. Lindsay Reid placed third high individual in horses.

This was the team’s first experience judging horses as part of a contest. The horse division consisted of two halter classes, quarter horse mares and geldings, followed by one set of oral reasons.

In preparation for this contest, the team practiced with Burrows. She traveled with the team and played a pivotal role in their success at the Fort Worth contest.

“What was unique about the team was they were a little nervous at first, but after judging a few classes they started placing them correctly, and it definitely boosted their confidence. They were very respectful and willing to listen to my ideas as well as trust me. They are a very smart group of kids, and it was a privilege to work with such a talented group of individuals,” Burrows said.
