PRYOR, OK —
Two Locust Grove families will receive food donations thanks to community efforts.
Police Chief Chris Edwards organized a food drive, with the hope of stocking the pantries of two less-fortunate families.
“Dollar General, here in town, has generously agreed to contribute to the food drive,” said Edwards. “Not only are they setting up boxes to encourage their shoppers to donate, but they are donating food as well.”
Edwards said the recipients will be chosen by the Locust Grove Public Schools based social worker.
“I understand we have a lot of families that rely on their kids receiving school lunches. We want to make sure these families start the summer break with a pantry full of groceries,” said Edwards, who hopes to make the food drive a tradition.
His plan is to expand the drive to help six families, and to be held twice a year.
“I would love to see the community help fill this donation box,” said Edwards. “The box will be available for donations through the end of May.”
