Funding opportunities in 2008 Farm Bill

The 2008 Farm Bill has much to offer the farmers, ranchers and landowners in Oklahoma. It enhances existing programs while creating new avenues for producers to protect and improve conditions on their land.

Since its initial passage, excellent progress has been made to transform the Farm Bill's legislative language into on-the-ground opportunities.

Draft rules for several conservation programs have been successfully developed and are undergoing policy review. In the meantime, local staffs with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) are helping producers get ready to take advantage of these program options.

For landowners or producers, this is a great time to prepare for the new opportunities ahead. To receive funding through NRCS programs, participants should first contact NRCS to begin developing a conservation plan for their land. Conservation planning is a voluntary process in which the landowner or operator makes decisions about how to best enhance conservation benefits while meeting production goals. Upon request, certified NRCS conservation planners provide free, comprehensive planning assistance that helps producers meet your goals for their land. Those who have a conservation plan in place will be ready to apply for funding and further assistance when Farm Bill programs are final.
