Entries full for ranch rodeo

When Casey Round was hurt in a horse accident, he faced a common problem for working cowboys - no insurance. His friends, more working cowboys, found a way to help. They put together a benefit ranch rodeo and auction to raise money. That was last fall and the effort was a success. Hoping to help some other cowboy with no insurance, another ranch rodeo is planned Oct. 4.

“My family and I greatly appreciate the community coming out to support us last year,” Round said. “It meant so much to have everybody show up to help us in our time of need.

“I am doing really good. Still some numbness, pain and headaches, but I'm eating, talking and spending time with my family, so I know I'm going to be fine. I thank God for pulling me through.

“I really want to thank everybody who sponsored the rodeo, competed in the rodeo and donated auction items. I also want to thank everyone who came out to watch the rodeo, purchased items at the auction, and made donations. I especially want to thank Heath Massey and Luke Williams and their families as well as Tom Holcroft, Gerald Barnhart and Mike Armitage for putting it all together last year.

“This year a Green Country Cowboy Crisis Fund has been established to help other cowboys like me who have come upon hard times. This year’s rodeo is going to be great and I am proud to say that I will be competing.

“I invite everyone to come out Oct. 4 and support the hard working cowboys you can't see from the road.”

This year’s contest is at the 4-Way arena Oct. 4, 6 p.m. Fifteen area teams are entered from all over Green Country.

During the rodeo, an auction will be held with items ranging from stud fees to tack. Many area businesses and craftsmen donated items for this worthy cause. This year, a raffle will give away a 16-foot Neckover gooseneck stock trailer. Tickets are $100 each and only 100 tickets will be sold. The trailer is on display at Roberts Auto Center. Tickets may be purchased there or by calling the numbers below.

For more information, call Heath Massey at (918) 688-1137, Luke Williams at (918) 598-3824, or Casey Round at (918) 520-5208.
